Born in Québec City in 1969, it was through my teenage passion for astronomy that I first learned the various concepts of photography and optics, by exploring astrophotography. My broader passion for photography truly took off in the mid-2000s with the arrival of affordable digital SLR cameras.

I then dove into all kinds of photographic styles, from insect macro to studio portraiture. The abstract style gradually emerged through these varied experiences and eventually established itself as my main artistic mode of expression in 2012. That same year, I founded Lumières Abstraites, a community that quickly grew and has since become a unique platform for abstract photography, bringing together a large number of enthusiasts of the genre.

Since 2015, I’ve had the opportunity to give lectures on abstract photography in several photography clubs across Québec, with the aim of better introducing this style and sharing my passion for it.

Artistic approach

The absolute silence of the world in the face of our ultimate questions makes the human experience as fascinating as it is terrifying. So how can we find a way of seeing life that allows us to remain serene and balanced between these two tensions ?

Over the years, abstract photography and the reflections it inspires in me have become a way of approaching this delicate question — a way of being in the world where imagination and reason draw from one another in an intermittent dialogue.

This inner duality fuels a never-ending quest: to relentlessly explore objects and scenes that spark my curiosity, to contemplate them and shape them in an attempt to infuse them with my own imagination.

In concrete terms, this leads me to observe the most mundane elements of daily life in order to reveal their unsuspected beauty. It’s a commitment that guides me toward this art of living: to connect, in the most deeply felt way possible, to the world around us. Photography then becomes, for me, the privileged means of bearing witness to this communion — and of sparking it.

The inclusion of literary passages in the presentation of certain photographs is an additional layer in my artistic approach.
The fusion of words and images can sometimes reveal a new way of reading the photograph, elevating it to another level. In the same way, the image can act as a vessel for the text, becoming a catalyst that either embodies its meaning or unveils a new one. The union of these two mediums thus gives rise to a singular work—one that is inseparable from both its visual and textual components.
